The Journey to Evidence-Based Socket Design
We hope you are having a happy and healthy 2022 so far and that this newsletter finds you well. In this newsletter we’re covering:
Launching our first data-driven socket design workflow at OTWorld
A background on developing technologies for evidence-based prosthetic design
One pagers and coming soon
We were incredibly excited to launch our first data-focused design platform, that through quantification and visualisation of your implemented rectifications, will enable you to:
Learn from the past to inform future designs
Build in a feedback loop to your workflow
See insights into your design processes to support future designs
It was a pleasure to meet everyone and we can’t wait to connect further, see how you’ve found trialling the platform and learn more about how we can support your design processes.
Get in touch to be among the first to start extracting data and learning from your workflow now!
We are incredibly proud of our academic co-founder Alex Dickinson for his fantastic closing keynote on “Digital Workflows for Predictive Prosthetic Socket Design (or Why I'm Glad I Made Friends with Prosthetists and Prosthesis Users)”, talking about:
Importance of learning from and involving the people who will use technologies being developed so that they are accessible and useful clinically
How people have been exploring measurements within prosthetic design since the ’80s (e.g. Krouskop, 1987)
Why thirty years later, tools are still stuck in research and not close to clinical translation
At Radii Devices, we're making this research a clinical reality and we’re excited for Alex to share our collaborative work for the first time; proposing that learning from existing limb shapes, socket designs and outcome measures might:
Enable us to find trends in successful socket design
Capture prosthetic expertise that could be used to create first guess smart CAD templates for new individuals with amputation
The prosthetist interprets these and applies their knowledge and expertise accounting for individual patient aspects to create the optimal socket design
If you want to be a part of this journey and one of the first to start accessing this in your clinic, then we'd love to chat!
In every newsletter, we are releasing a one-page overview of an aspect of our research or the technology behind our tools. This one-pager is a summary of the research and technology behind our upcoming data-driven design app.
We’d love to answer any questions you have about this one-pager, or even suggest topics for future one-pagers.
Click here to see our previous one-pager on usability testing.
Keep in touch for more exciting developments over the summer as we move towards in-clinic trialling of our full AI-driven platform and as our clinical road map evolves.
Before then check out our website which we are continually developing and updating.
Thanks for reading, as always please get in touch with any thoughts or feedback and feel free to share with any colleagues or friends who might be interested.
We hope to see you all soon.
